External labeling and algorithms for hierarchic networks
1988
Algorithms for generating internal data structures for networks are given. Data bases for networks can be partitioned hierarchically. Nodes of lower class networks may also be in the interior of a higher class arc which will be split if it is included into the final network. Naming is based either on nodes or on arcs.
Understanding the use of mobile phones in the agricultural sector in rural Indonesia: using the capability approach as lens
2012
This study aims to investigate the use of mobile phones in the agricultural sector and its possible contributions to development of developing countries, with special reference to Indonesia. In our interpretive work, the capability approach is used as a lens, and the study is informed by data from interviews with various actors and field observations. The paper unearths the pattern of use of mobile phones among farmers in their professional network and shows that ownership and use of mobile phones varies, depending on the farmers' location in the network hierarchy. The study further unveils that the conversion factors play a significant role in order to realise achievement (functionings) fr…

Two Levels SPF-Based System to Interconnect Partially Decentralized P2P File Sharing Networks
2005
Partially decentralized P2P (PDP2P) networks are a subset of P2P networks. Roles of nodes are different according to their functionality in the network. Nowadays, there are many PDP2P networks, with different characteristics. It is necessary to find a way to join those autonomous networks. We have not found any interconnection system, so in this article we present a new hierarchical system for interconnecting peers from different PDP2P networks. It will allow sharing data, content and resources between networks. It can be employed between sensor networks, P2P networks, and generally, overlay networks. Oldest superpeers or brokers with higher bandwidth in the PDP2P network will belong to hig…

Energy Efficient Consensus Over Complex Networks
2015
The need to extract large amounts of information from the environment to have precise situation awareness and then react appropriately to certain events has led to the emergence of complex and heterogeneous sensor networks. In this context, where the sensor nodes are usually powered by batteries, the design of new methods to make inference processes efficient in terms of energy consumption is necessary. One of these processes, which is present in many distributed tasks performed by these complex networks, is the consensus process. This is the basis for certain tracking algorithms in monitoring and control applications. To improve the energy efficiency of this process, in this paper we propo…
Overlapping Community Structure in Co-authorship Networks: A Case Study
2014
Community structure is one of the key properties of real-world complex networks. It plays a crucial role in their behaviors and topology. While an important work has been done on the issue of community detection, very little attention has been devoted to the analysis of the community structure. In this paper, we present an extensive investigation of the overlapping community network deduced from a large-scale co-authorship network. The nodes of the overlapping community network represent the functional communities of the co-authorship network, and the links account for the fact that communities share some nodes in the co-authorship network. The comparative evaluation of the topological prop…
